I had a customer I did 3 years ago that does not take care of his lights and he works at one of the auto dealers and refurs me a lot of work. Last year he called me in saying his lights are all hased over and can not see out of them, so last year I polished them out for him for free and told him to do the same every 3 - 6 months to keep them up.... I was called there again yesterday for the same thing.
this time it was not for free. It was the stupid tax charge. $50.00 for 10 min. of work.... I used the Diamond Clear Acrylic Compound from GT with my Metabo 400 for 2 - 3 min.'s then used Mothers Carnuba polish with the Matebo again.
I told the service writer that he needs to do this like I said before and he just told me that he does not have the time... "Must be nice" He said he would rather have me come in every time he calls. For 50 bucks.... Sure.
I have to do his dads car today.................. Same thing...
I guess that is how you get repeat customers.... Stupid Taxes

Thats Great gt!
I ordered my Metabo on 12/09/08 and Tools-Plus shipped it by USPS on 12/11/08. They lost track of it and I was going to get a credit back on my card yesterday and the tool came today.
Now I have to wait to get my delivery from GT that I ordered on 12/31/08.
Have a Great 2009!!!

Well you just answered my question before I asked it.. I was going to ask how things are going and if you received every thing by now.
Like I said in the upper post, that works great for the lights that are just heavily oxidized by hard water.
You may want to get a tub of "Diamond Clear Acrylic Compound" from GT and use that for the lights that are just hazed. I can them Cataracts.
Keep me posted..

Well, I did the father of the service writer that I did the other day, and they were just cataracts that just needed a good polishing out just like the son.... You know the old saying " Like Father like son... "
I used the Diamond Clear Acrylic Compound from GT with the Matebo and a white foam pad and worked the lights for about 2 min.s each and then Mothers Pre wax Cleaner # 07100 to seal them up by using the Matebo with a Blue foam pad and polish it off with a soft towel, but I will be buying a red soft pad from GT on my next order...
I hope this helps others.

I was tracking my delivery from GT and it should be here sometime Wednesday. My 96 Ford F-150 will be the first one I do. It's so bad I can not see anything at night.

I restored my Jeep lenses to get some improvement, but now I think I need brighter headlamps. Not to go off topic too much, but real quick, does anyone know whether or not it's a good idea to throw a HID upgrade into an older Jeep Grand Cherokee? What other options are there for brighter bulbs than what comes stock on the Jeep? Anyone?

gt,
I worked of my truck and it looks good. It took me about less than 30 minutes. The Metabo 400 is really easy to control.
I have to go to the junkyard and find a couple of really bad ones so I can use it as a sample to show potential clients.

I am glad it worked out for you..
When you get one for a demo to show off your work, Only do half. tape it in half and do one side and leave the other untouched so they can see and feel the light. I used a dodge caravan because it is so long there is a good size viewing for them to see...

Don,
Why did you use Mothers Pre wax Cleaner # 07100 to seal them up rather than GT's UV spray sealer?
Which product do you think will give the best long term UV protection?
Would you use the same sealer if you had removed the factory UV protectant coating from the headlights?

I have tried the GT Sealer on my own trucks, and it looked good, but you still need to keep them polished otherwise they would start yellowing after a while. I have talked to a lot of folks in the car shows and also called the Mothers corp., we talked about what I was doing and we ended up using Mothers Pre wax Cleaner # 07100 because of the carnuba wax in it.. I do not use the mothers instead of the sealer, I use it with the sealer. After the sealer is good and hardened I will polish the lens with the Mothers. Read up on it and you may see why.
I polish our lights maybe 2 - 3 times a year and they still look great...
I even tell my customers to polish there lights as they polish there cars to keep the UV off the lens. Preventive measures. Good PR on my end.

Hello Don D,
I hope you do not mind me jumping in here. I have a question for you. I just replaced both the headlights on my Jeep because the old ones were so discolored and fogged over the lights were not as bright as they should be. I replaced them because I am disabled and really do not have the strength to clean the old ones. My question is; what can I do to the new headlights to keep them from getting like the old ones? I saw in this posting you say how to clean them and how often to clean them, but I am not sure what I should use to keep the new ones looking new. I sure would appreciate any help you can give me.
Thank you,
James H.

I use Mothers Carnauba cleaner wax: http://www.mothers.com/02_products/05701-05500.html
I would apply it every 3 - 4 months or as you would wax your jeep.
What did you do with your old lights? You could have them cleaned and ebay them off to get some back.
If you had a pic, I could tell you what you would need to do to clean them up.
Hope this helps
