I have had James PM'ing me on his Jeep lights and I am going to post them as a transcription of us going back and forth.

I asked if I can post the conversation on the forum for the rest to veiw, and this is his response. Then I will post everything else for your reading...

Don; by all means please feel free to add these postings to the forum. To tell you the honest truth I do not know how or even when our posting ended up in a private format. I am not real intelligent when it comes to the internet. I often cannot find forums I posted on unless I book mark them. I also know very little when it comes to posting on forums. Like I do not know how to post pictures. Actually I am lucky to be able to find away to start a thread on most forums. I am sure I screwed up somewhere to make this private. I am glad to hear you can fix my mistake.

Thanks again,
James

Hello Don D,
I hope you do not mind me jumping in here. I have a question for you. I just replaced both the headlights on my Jeep because the old ones were so discolored and fogged over the lights were not as bright as they should be. I replaced them because I am disabled and really do not have the strength to clean the old ones. My question is; what can I do to the new headlights to keep them from getting like the old ones? I saw in this posting you say how to clean them and how often to clean them, but I am not sure what I should use to keep the new ones looking new. I sure would appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you,
James H.

I use Mothers Carnauba cleaner wax:
http://www.mothers.com/02_products/05701-05500.html
I would apply it every 3 - 4 months or as you would wax your jeep.
What did you do with your old lights? You could have them cleaned and ebay them off to get some back.
If you had a pic, I could tell you what you would need to do to clean them up.
Hope this helps __________________

Hello Don,

Thank you for replying to my question. Also; thank you so much for all the great information. I will defiantly keep all my lights waxed with Mother's. I was using Wolf Gang for Plastic, but will now switch. I also put those clear GT Covers over the front lights in hopes of keeping the head lights new looking.
Don; I was keeping the old head lights for backups. They kind of look like they are cloudy. I would like to be able to get them cleaner. I would take pictures for you to see them, but I do not know how to post pictures on a web page. Thanks for offering to look at them for me though. I was at Advanced Auto Supplies and they had a kit for cleaning head lights using a drill. I did not buy it because I do not know if it works. Do you have any experience with a kit like that? For the $16.00 I am thinking of trying it.

Thanks again,
James

If your lights are only hazed over as I call them "cataracts", I would use:
http://www.gtglass.com/product/index...-yourself.html (http://www.gtglass.com/product/index/17/do-it-yourself.html)

use the cheaper of the two. You will be able to keep the factory sealer on the lights and that is what I shoot for first.

If they are starting to flake a little like a sun burn on our shin then use the more expensive kit.

I just finished doing a truck today that I just bought and polished out my lights with the more expensive kit..
They look brand new.

I also polished out my wife and daughters lights today getting ready for the early nights and they all look new also...

I do not like the wipe on sealers as I have used them on a lot of lights and mine also in the past and have gone to the GT systems 100%:
http://www.gtglass.com/product/index...-yourself.html (http://www.gtglass.com/product/index/17/do-it-yourself.html)

The sealers from the auto parts stores only last 3 to 8 months even if you try to polish them out 3 times a year...

Trust me. I am verry picky being this is my reputation in my town in what I can do for them..

Hello Don,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge with me. Also; thank you for the link to Gt Glass for the head light cleaner. I really appreciate all your help.

I will defiantly take your advise and order one of the head light kits from GT. I am leaning toward the more expensive kit. I am afraid if I buy the cheaper kit and do not like the results I will have to buy the expensive kit too. If I start out with the expensive kit I will know I cannot get the head lights no better. I am probably as picky as you are and want to get everything the best I can.

Don; I hate to bother you with anything else, but I was wondering if you know what to do to get rid of water spots off glass. My Jeep has water spots on all the glass. The good part about it is you cannot see the spots until the glass is wet or you spray glass cleaner on them. Since they do not show all the time should I even bother with it? Do you know if there is a cleaner out that will get rid of the spots? Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks,
James

I would take one more step on the Cleaning of the head lights. I would go down to your local paint and body supplier and pick up a sheet or two of Miguiers 3000 grit wet and dry paper. This will be the final sanding before using the compound to polish. It will only make it cleaner and then a faster polishing of the light.

You water spots can be possible removed using OOOO steel wool and soapy water and working it lightly....

But again the compound for the headlights will also work if the hard water is not bad... I have done this on a customers truck removing the scratches from the window going up and down to much with dirt in the felt....

*****You know this all would have been good for the forum to read, Could I make this so the others can view this also or do you want to keep this private? Your call..
